This Is Nutrition For Your Feet

This Is Nutrition For Your Feet

We’re betting you never thought of it this way, but pedicures are good nutrition for your feet.

Let’s face it.

Your feet take a beat everyday. Not only do they carry your physical weight, they also carry the weight of your world!

If they could be recycled, it might not matter how you treat them, but they can’t. They are yours forever.

Tired, aching feet are begging for relief from the load they’ve carried throughout the day. And no doubt, you are, too!

That’s why including professional pedicures as part of your wellness plan just makes sense.

  • Prevent infections and diseases of the nail
  • Reduce foot odor
  • Loosen tight muscles and relieves strain caused y day to day activities
  • Diminish chronic pain
  • Reduce mental stress
  • Prevent corns and calluses from causing painful walking
  • Stop ingrown nails

Trimming, clipping, and cleaning your nails prevent them from growing inward and causing an infection. Exfoliation of calluses and corns give your feet renewed life, and you get more bounce in your step.

That’s why we call pedicures “nutrition.” They feed your feet, giving them more life and you many more comfortable, pain-free walking years! And as a second bonus, pedicures release all the stress and strain you feel.

Love your feet and your health with monthly therapeutic pedicures. We promise they will love you back!

Winter Skincare Tips

Winter Skincare Tips

As the cold weather sets in, the air becomes dry, making your skin crack and starved for moisture. So what can you do to protect it? Here are some tips to keep your skin humidified during winter.

1. Extra dry skin can cause keratosis pilaris, a condition that resembles chicken skin. Make sure to use lotions with salicylic acid to exfoliate dead cells around your hair follicles and reduce the appearance of bumps.

2. When washing your hands, choose a moisturizing soap-free cleanser or a hydrating antibacterial gel, then slather on lotion right away.

3. Anything that traps moisture on your skin helps lotions and creams soak in. So slip on some cotton gloves over lotion to help moisturize parched hands.

4. To soften stubborn dry patches on rough elbows and knees, a simple mixture of honey and sugar applied topically can serve as a rich, hydrating scrub and increase circulation in your skin.

5. If your arms or legs look scaly, try a 12 percent lactic acid lotion. It will moisturize your skin and exfoliate those scales away.

6. For your arms, legs, and torso, use a rich bath oil or moisturizing body cleanser that leaves a creamy film on your skin.

7. Exfoliate lightly.

8. For roughed-up feet, before bed, gently buff away calluses with a hydrating scrub or pumice stone, and apply a thick, buttery moisturizer while feet are still damp.

9. A long, hot bath or shower might seem tempting when you’ve been out in the cold, but it will strip your skin of moisture. Keep showers to no more than 10 minutes, and not more than once a day.

10. The softer your sheets and sleepwear, the better, but you needn’t invest in silk. Avoid blends of cotton and synthetic fibers, which might be irritating.

Skin Care Excuse Hall Of Fame

Excuse #5: “Your products are too expensive and I have a family to feed!”

Excuse #5: “Your products are too expensive and I have a family to feed!”

Excuse #5: “Your products are too expensive and I have a family to feed!”

This excuse is rooted in family protection, wanting to make sure your kids have what they need to live a good life. That’s completely understandable so let’s add a little balance to the equation.

The kids that come into our spa never look under loved. It’s obvious to all that their needs are more than provided for. We love to see that!

So, just make sure that excuse is not hiding the same mistake women around the world have made for a millennia.

Putting your wants and needs last on the list.

You know we do it! Just remember, kids model what they see. What do you want to teach them?

The very good news about our product line is that a little bit goes a long way. That means you get way more than what you paid for. Unlike drugstore or home party brands, our products have active ingredients that give you results quickly.

And there are no junk fillers to further reduce the potency of the product!

In order to give your kids the best in life show them the importance of balance. Show them the importance of giving and of taking care of themselves.

Ready? We are when you are!

Did you know that on average women use 12 personal care products containing 168 different ingredients every day? (2004 survey by the Environmental Working Group)

That’s a lot by anyone’s standards, but what’s worse is this—the Food and Drug Administration does not test every single ingredient that goes into beauty products.

And you can’t trust the word “natural” on a label, either. It has not been regulated. That means the manufacturer can say it’s natural no matter what’s in it.

Nervous About Getting Your Chest Waxed? Don’t Be!

Nervous About Getting Your Chest Waxed? Don’t Be!

There’s really no need to be nervous! In less than 30 minutes you can have a smooth, sexy chest.

Here are a few pointers to help ease you into it.

No, waxing isn’t painless. However, it’s not nearly as bad as it was portrayed in the movie, “What Do Women Want?” with Mel Gibson.

The longer the hair, the greater the pain. Trim the area to ¼ inch/.6 cm before you come in. Or, we can do it for you.

Either way, you’ll thank us for it. It’s less uncomfortable and allows us to work more quickly.

Check your “macho” at the door. This is no time to go all John Wayne on us. If you’re really sensitive, take some ibuprofen before you come in. It will ease sensitivity.

After we’ve waxed your chest, we’ll apply a product to soothe the area as well.

Protect your skin from direct sunlight for 24 hours after waxing. It’s tremendously vunerable!

Do wear that sexy shirt you’ve been promising…

Home Remedies For Dark Circles

Home Remedies For Dark Circles

Dark circles also known as ‘eye circles’, are blemishes around or under the eyes. They have many causes, such as lack of sleep, hereditary, or allergy-related.

If the discoloration is due to hyperpigmentation, light chemical peels can help. But unfortunately, that is not always the case.

Make-up and eye crèmes can also greatly reduce and cover up the appearance of dark circles.

And there are home remedies that can also give you relief.

• Cucumbers – This is a tried and tested solution! Take two thin slices of refrigerated cucumber and place them on your eyes for 5-10 minutes. The coolness will help reduce the inflammation and lighten the skin under your eyes.

• Cooled, Damp Tea bags. Tea has caffeine and tannins. These ingredients reduce swelling and puffiness under the eyes. They constrict capillaries and blood vessels which help in eliminating the dark circles. Make sure the tea bags are slightly damp; otherwise, they won’t work if they’re completely dry.

• Spoons! Refrigerate two teaspoons for an hour or two. Then place them over each eye for a cooling, refreshing result.

Once you’ve completed your home treatment, you can apply eye serum and make-up as usual.

Instant Redness Reducers

posted by Lissa Logan

Redness to the skin comes in many forms. Rosacea, acne, flushing, redness resulting from sun damage or general irritation are just some of the challenges women face.

What can you do to reduce redness? Here are a few tips:

Facials & Skin Care: Excessively dry skin causes the endings in your dermis to become vulnerable to irritants, exacerbating the problem.

Get facials specifically designed to reduce redness. Choose moisturizers with phospholipids (we can help you there) and hyaluronic acid. Both are excellent for plumping up the skin and calming down redness.
Hyaluronic acid can hold up to one thousand times its weight in water. Just think of what it can do for your skin!

Cancel Redness With Colour: Use a concealer that has a yellow or green tint to cancel out the redness. Make sure your foundation has a yellow base to help further even out your skin tone for a flawless look.

Add Redness Reducing Foods & Spices: Cucumber, ginger, licorice root extract, rose extract, turmeric and white tea extract are all excellent for fighting redness and bolstering the skin’s resistance to irritation.

Include whole foods, especially leafy green vegetables and fish. Sugar is especially bad for spiking inflammation. So cut it back then cut it out!

Why This Negativity Is So Good For You!

Why This Negativity Is So Good For You!

When you think of negativity, you most likely think of cranky pants talk. Well, that’s true, and you definitely don’t want your life full of doom and gloom conversation!

But there is another kind of negativity that’s actually good for your body and your mind. Called negative ions, they are simply electrically charged atoms and molecules that are part of your body and your surrounding environment.

You can feel the impact of negative ions with waterfalls, summer rains, and fresh fallen snow. When you take a walk in the woods, or sit by a creek and listen to the water flowing, your body and your mind relaxes. That’s negative ions at work!

It’s no wonder we crave that kind of solitude. But it’s hard to make time to get to the woods or a babbling creek to repair and restore the ravages of modern life!

Instead, you get massive, daily exposure to electromagnetic radiation from power lines and household wires, electric heating and air conditioning devices, pollution, cigarette fumes, cell phones, computers, TV…WHEW!

This exposure damages your body and is believed to have a role in the aging process and cancer. Well, that’s not good.

Want to get the balance you crave without taking a day off? Our massage will do the trick! You’ll feel like you spent a day at the beach, rejuvenated, refreshed, and youthful. You deserve that, don’t you?

Wash Your Face Twice

Wash Your Face Twice

Wash Your Face Twice

Have you noticed your aesthetician cleanses your skin twice when you get a facial?

No, this is not a special method for skin care. However, it is an excellent practice for getting and keeping good skin.

This is especially true at night. Your skin works during the day by turning over new skin. Then you’ve got make-up, pollution and all the stuff floating around in the air at your work place and your home!

And, if you don’t wear make-up at all, that means you have nothing protecting the skin, so more dirt and debris collect like dust on your face!

That’s why cleansing twice is nice. The first wash is called a pre-cleanse, removing the daily build up of dirt, oil, make-up, etc. You’ll notice not a lot of suds form.

The second wash deep cleanses the skin, thoroughly cleaning your pores.

A two-step cleanse morning and evening is an excellent habit to develop. It helps remove excess oils, dirt and debris that your skin is exposed to overnight.

How Does IPL Hair Removal Work?

How Does IPL Hair Removal Work?

How Does IPL Hair Removal Work?

What’s it really like to remove that pesky hair with IPL? Well, here’s the lowdown.

Before treatment, you should not wax, epilate, pluck, or bleach the area for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment. These treatments remove the hair root, and you don’t want that.

Do shave at least 1-2 days prior to your session. Shaving allows the IPL wavelengths to target the hair follicle and not waste any energy on the hair above the skin’s surface.

IPL light is absorbed by the hair pigment, effectively destroying the hair shaft. The best results with IPL are seen with dark, coarse hair and light skin tones. With this color contrast, the IPL wavelengths “see” the dark pigment and destroy it.

How can you tell if the treatment is successful? Sometimes, but not always, the hair color can become charcoal black and expand in size. Or, you may see a ring around each follicle a few minutes after the treatment.

These are all good signs that the heat was sufficient for killing the hair root. However, this is not always seen!

A cooling gel is used to make the treatment more comfortable. Sessions are generally quick. An upper lip takes just a minute, while underarms take about 5 minutes, and bikini areas take 10 minutes or so. For back, chest, and legs, it usually takes about an hour.

The really interesting part happens somewhere between 1-3 weeks after treatment. It will look like the hair is growing back! It isn’t, of course; the heat from the IPL wavelengths kill hair roots.

But those unwanted hairs remain in the skin. It’s not unusual for them to become attached to your epidermis. Then, as your epidermis renews itself, turning over new skin, the hair emerges and falls out. (We suggest a celebration.)

You can also exfoliate the area to speed up the process. Once the hair has shed, you will experience a hair free period for several weeks. When new hair grows in, it’s time for another session. For most people, that’s between 8-12 weeks.

Most clients see up to 90% permanent hair reduction in 3-5 sessions! Cost-effective and quick with only minor discomfort, IPL eliminates a lifetime of unwanted hair.
