How To Get The Perfect Manicure

How To Get The Perfect Manicure

How To Get The Perfect Manicure

How do you get perfect looking nails? What’s the right manicure for you? Here are our tips to have the perfect manicure:

  1. French Manicures—Always a classic look, French manicures make your nails look longer. Wear paler shades for serious moments like a job interview.
  2. Gel or Shellac nails—If you have a busy lifestyle, or you just want long lasting colour without the upkeep, this is just right for you.
  3. Your Skin Tone And Colour—Make sure the colour of your polish compliments your skin tone. For blue undertones, choose pinkish nudes, deep violet, fuchsia or cherry red. For olive and yellow undertones, opt for beige or white nudes, chocolates and corals. One trick when testing a new shade, use a piece of clear tape stuck to your nail.
  4. Choose A Flattering Nail Shape—An oval shape flatters most hands, but if you want to soften your look, go for a round shape. Square and “squoval” look best on long fingers. A pointed nail is more daring and makes nails look longer.
  5. For Smudge Or Chip—Dab a little acetone on the trouble spot and smooth it out. Once it dries, fill in the area with matching nail polish and a topcoat.
  6. First Aid For A Cracked Nail—It happens, so try this quick fix at home. Cut a strip from a tea bag to cover the nail. Apply a base coat then wet the tea bag strip with polish, and wrap it around the nail. Smooth it out and seal with another layer of polish.
  7. Prevent an “Oops!” moment—Get out your keys and wallet out before your manicure starts. This will help lessen the chances of an “Oops!” moment happening.

Oxygen and Our Skin

posted by Lissa Logan

Oxygen is our very own fountain of youth. It is vital for cell renewal, fighting off damaging free radicals and carrying away toxins.

Without oxygen, you lose vitamin C, which keeps skin soft and glowing. Skin starts to thin, collagen and elastin are damaged.

This creates premature sagging and wrinkles. Vertical lines form around the mouth and healing is much slower. Aging is quicker.

This is why smoking not only causes damage to your respiratory system, it also brings great harm to your skin.

It can take up to 10 years for the damage to appear so you may not see the signs of aging yet. But do what you must to quit this dreadful life threatening habit.

Diet and Aging

As we grow old, our bodies change. More nutrition is needed, metabolism goes slower, wrinkles appear, and so on.

Our diet plays a huge factor on how we age.

Foods that are high in simple sugars, carbohydrates and bad fats wreak havoc not just on your health, but also your skin!

Skin professionals have long known of the many benefits of applying topical nutrients such as vitamin C to the skin.

In fact, topical application of vitamin C has shown some impressive results in reversing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reducing inflammation, and improving the health of skin.

This is why a lot of skincare companies boast of making products that have vitamins to give your skin a glowing, youthful look.

But we know that it takes more than skin care to make great skin. Too much highly processed food, and sodas will wreak havoc on your health and your skin.

We encourage all of our clients to skip the bad fat, high carb diet. Choose real foods that add more skin glowing effects and health benefits.

The point is to take care of your skin from the inside out. Get facials and other clinical treatments to slow down time.

But choose to keep that love going when you pick up a fork! The treatments and products that you use from us will work so much better.

Care For A Cocktail?

Care For A Cocktail?

Care For A Cocktail?

Everyone loves microdermabrasion.

This age-defying treatment is completely safe, convenient, non-invasive and gives remarkable results even with just one session.

Unfortunately, not all skin conditions can be treated by microdermabrasion. Rosacea, broken blood vessels, spider veins and acne cannot be solved by this treatment.

But even though microdermabrasion can’t treat those skin conditions, it amplifies the ability of other treatments to do so!

For example, Intense Pulsed Light and chemical peels work more efficiently. By exfoliating and vacuuming away dirt, debris, dead skin, clogged pores, and the like, microdermabrasion allows these treatments to do their job faster and more easily.

We call these double treatments “cocktails.” The results will make you giddy!

Can Your Emotions Affect Your Skin?

Can Your Emotions Affect Your Skin?

Can Your Emotions Affect Your Skin?

Your emotions play a large role in how you look and how others perceive you. But of all the emotions that can shred away your youth, the number one spot goes to stress.

Stress stimulates the hormone cortisol. When you’re stressed it taxes every organ in your body. It makes you eat different, making you crave junk food like chocolates and potato chips all the time. Other effects of stress are:

  • Blood vessels become more fragile
  • Skin cells don’t form as quickly
  • Cell turnover eventually slows to half!

Anger can also affect how quickly your skin rejuvenates and heals. That pesky hormone, cortisol, taking center stage once more. It also limits the production of collagen which is the great fighter against aging.

However, we can’t stop how we feel. So when life gets the best of you, take some time for yourself. Get a facial, a massage, do whatever it is that calms and soothes you. It will subtract years from your face and add years to your life!

That old saying that laughter is the best medicine is true!

Are You Sure You Have Oily Skin?

posted by Lissa Logan

It’s not uncommon for women to tell us they have oily skin, when in fact, they actually have combination skin.

What’s the difference? Oily skin is oily all over—not just the t-zone. Combination skin types experience two skin conditions on their face, oily and normal or dry. It’s tricky and difficult.

While you may have to use lighter products in your t-zone and heavier products on your cheeks, exfoliation remains simple!

A gentle granular scrub works extremely well for combination skin. Not too drying and not too rough, twice weekly exfoliation will help to:

• Loosen and remove dead skin and debris—Skin looks smoother, radiant

• Unclog pores-They look smaller!

• Allow for a smooth, even make-up application

• Keep blackheads from appearing

Combination skin can be a bear to work with and needs special care. We can help. Just ask!

How To Eliminate Large Pores

posted by Lissa Logan

Large pores are tough to eliminate.

You have to be careful in choosing what products or treatments to get so as not to make matters worse. So let’s start with the basics.

Pick the right cleanser. Large pores are often the result of oily skin, sun damage and genetics. Opt for an exfoliant cleanser to wash away the outer layer of dead skin cells, leaving you with smoother skin.

Use Retinoids. These are not only excellent for reducing the appearance of large pores, but they also smooth fine lines and wrinkles!

Get the right moisturizer. Oily skin needs moisturizing too! Balance your skin with an oil-free moisturizer to increase hydration in the skin.

And finally, talk to us about our highly effective treatments that diminish the appearance of large pores, increase collagen production and give you a reason to smile every time you look in the mirror.

How To Make Your Concealer Work For You

How To Make Your Concealer Work For You

Concealer is quite possibly the biggest face saver in your makeup kit. From dark circles, uneven skin tone to blemishes, it’s hard to find a woman who doesn’t rely on it.

So how can you get your concealer to work its hardest for you? Here are our tips:

• Apply a crème concealer before your foundation, especially if you’re covering hyperpigmentation (brown spots) and redness on your face. This will help to give your foundation a boost, and you won’t have to apply as much of it.

• Redness and blemishes—Add a little concealer around your nose to cover any redness. Dot it on blemishes or use a brush. Either way, you want a layering effect.

• Your eyes—Yes, you use concealer under your eyes for dark circles. But did you know that the inner corners of your eyes also give you away? This area tends to look dark as well. So don’t forget to dot or brush a bit there to lighten your eye area.

• Brow lifting highlight. Want to lift your brows a bit? Use a bit of concealer—one shade lighter than your skin tone—and smooth it just under your brow. Use a flat or angled brush so you get a smooth, crisp line. Be sure to blend well.

• General contouring. If you do have a concealer that’s lighter than your skin tone, brush it on the high side of your cheek, down your nose and on the Cupid’s bow. Blend. Set with powder then finish the rest of your makeup.

• Lips. Run a bit of concealer around the perimeter of your lips to give a nice clean border. Then apply your lip color. Beautiful!

Signs That Show Stressed Skin

Signs That Show Stressed Skin

Signs That Show Stressed Skin

Stress is detrimental to your skin. It has been scientifically proven that the hormone cortisol literally gets under your skin and makes you age faster.

Here are 5 signs that you need to watch out for:

1. Dry Skin
Cortisol damages the skin’s ability to hold on to water. Having chronic stress increases this hormone.

2. Lines and Wrinkles
An elevation in blood sugar can be triggered by cortisol. This damages collagen and elastin, the protein fibers that plump skin and keep it smooth. Constant muscle tension also leads to permanent wrinkling.

3. Redness
When you’re under duress, increased blood flow occurs causing your capillaries to expand. Stress can also trigger rosacea, or flushing. And did you know that stress weakens your immune system too?

4. Acne
Of course, we all know that when you’re stressed, breakouts happen.

5. Tired Eyes
Anxiety can absolutely bring about many sleepless nights. And this in turn creates puffiness around the eyes.

Now that you know what to watch out for, you can apply home therapies or get professional services to counter these not-so-pretty effects from stress.
